Abstract
Waterborne polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) are sustainable alternatives to solvent-borne systems, but conventional PUD films often show limited damage tolerance and poor end-of-life options. Here, a self-healing, reprocessable PUD is developed by integrating dynamic covalent interactions while maintaining colloidal stability in water. The tailored soft–hard segment design enables dynamic crosslinking that remains active after film formation. The dispersion can be processed via standard water-based routes to produce coherent films and bonded layers without volatile organic solvents. Films exhibit mechanical recovery after damage under external stimuli, and reprocessing demonstrates network reconfigurability with minimal property loss. Demonstrations in coating, adhesive, and electrode-binder formats confirm practical applicability. Acknowledgement: NRF (RS-2020-NR055190) and MOTIE (RS-2024-00430401, RS-2025-11162970)
