Abstract
Thrombosis, bacterial infection, and biocompatibility remain obstacles in cardiovascular device development. To address these challenges, surface engineering strategies based on zwitterionic polymer brushes have attracted interest due to antifouling performance. However, in cardiovascular applications, such surface modifications often suffer from insufficient antibacterial activity and concerns related to leaching. In our earlier work, cyclic oligomers incorporating atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiators were introduced to generate polymer brushes with enhanced grafting density and stability. Building on this approach, we designed a polymer brush platform that simultaneously exhibits antifouling behavior, antibacterial functionality, and nonleachable characteristics. The physicochemical properties of the modified surfaces were evaluated using XPS, WCA, and SEM. Overall, this surface modification strategy shows strong potential for cardiovascular devices
