Abstract
TiO2-based UV filters effectively block UVB, yet their narrow spectral coverage and photocatalytic reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation limit their use in full-spectrum sunscreens. To address this, we developed a dual-engineered heterostructure integrating N-doped TiO2 on mesoporous SiO2, encapsulated by a metal-phenolic network (MPN). N-doping creates sub-bandgap states extending attenuation into the UVA-to-blue light region, while promoting charge recombination to suppress intrinsic ROS formation. The MPN coating further enhances absorption via ligand-to-metal charge transfer and provides antioxidant passivation. This platform integrates core-level defect engineering and interfacial redox control to provide robust, non-phototoxic, and full-spectrum protection.
