Abstract
To achieve reactive oxygen species (ROS)-free and full-spectrum protection, titanium dioxide (TiO2)-based UV filters must overcome high photocatalytic activity and narrow spectral coverage. We present a novel organic-inorganic hybrid platform designed to overcome these challenges through a SiO2/TiO2/metal-phenolic network (MPN) heterostructure. SiO2 scaffolds were used to anchor TiO2 nanocrystals, preserving UV-shielding performance while mitigating photochemical reactivity and nanoparticle-related safety risks. A Zn2+-based MPN layer provides an antioxidant passivation barrier and facilitates a ligand-to-metal charge transfer-mediated absorption pathway. This interface engineering strategy offers a promising route for broad-spectrum, low-phototoxicity sunscreens.
