Temperature-induced density inversion and thermal stability behavior of CNC-stabilized rosin amine pickering emulsions

Abstract

This research explores the temperature dependent density inversion phenomenon observed in CNC-stabilized rosin amine pickering emulsion systems. While the Rosin Amine droplets exhibit a sedimentation pattern at room temperature due to their higher density relative to the aqueous phase, an increase in temperature triggers a transition to creaming behavior. This shift is attributed to the rapid decrease in oil density resulting from thermal expansion. The dynamic stability and phase-separation kinetics were characterized using Turbiscan Stability Index (TSI) and backscattering profiles. Despite the shift in buoyancy direction, the CNC interfacial layers maintained structural integrity, effectively suppressing coalescence.
