Abstract
Neuromorphic vision sensors are promising components for next-generation computing, yet most devices rely on electrically driven inhibitory functions. Optical signals offer advantages such as low crosstalk, high bandwidth, and low power consumption. Negative photoresponses, exhibiting a decrease in current under light illumination, have progressed slowly due to the lack of effective structural design strategies.
Here, we demonstrate a bidirectional photoresponsive memristor based on a hybrid heterostructure consisting of a charge-trap layer sandwiched between two photoactive layers with distinct excitatory and inhibitory roles. This architecture enables independent optical control of synaptic potentiation and depression while enhancing photocarrier dynamics through efficient charge trapping.
This device enables efficient fully optical learning beyond the speed limitations of conventional optical synapses, offering a practical route to low-latency neuromorphic vision systems.
