Abstract
This study demonstrates a versatile approach for tuning the surface properties of parylene thin films through the incorporation of reactive functional groups into paracyclophane precursors. Paracyclophane dimers bearing alkyne, hydroxyl, and anhydride functionalities were synthesized, enabling the formation of parylene polymers with chemically active surfaces. Post-deposition chemical modifications were subsequently performed to tailor surface characteristics such as wettability, adhesion, and electrochemical stability. Moreover, spatially selective reactions allowed direct surface patterning without the need for conventional lithographic techniques. This strategy provides a simple and flexible platform for engineering functional polymer thin films, with promising applications in electronic devices, biosensing systems, and advanced packaging technologies.
