Abstract
Polyolefins are mainly manufactured industrially using Ziegler-Natta or Metallocene catalyst. Analyzing the morphology of these catalysts is critical, as their structure significantly influences the polymerization behavior of the monomers. However, structural analysis of these catalysts is challenging because they are highly sensitive to air and moisture. Consequently, surface and cross-sectional observations of such catalysts have been limited. In this study, we present an analysis of the surface and cross-sectional morphology of catalysts using FE-SEM with an inert chamber. The sample preparation was conducted inside a specially designed glove box to prevent atmospheric exposure. From this analysis, detailed insights into catalyst morphology, particle size, pore size, and pore distribution can be obtained. Furthermore, we aim to characterize the relationship between catalyst structure and copolymerization properties.
