A Study on Optimizing Glycolysis Conditions for Chemical Recycling of Waste Polyurethane Foam

Abstract

Global environmental regulations are strengthening, and the domestic policy of mandating 30% recycled raw materials by 2030 has been planned. In other words, the need for renewable raw material-based development is increasing across the petrochemical industry. Consequently, high-value-added chemical recycling technologies for waste PU foam are attracting attention.
 
During the glycolysis reaction, if the glycol content is higher than that of the PU foam, the residual glycol degrades the physical properties. To address this issue, this study will optimize the ratio of waste polyurethane foam to glycol. The acid value, hydroxyl value, viscosity, average molecular weight of recycled polyols with different waste polyurethane foam content will be analyzed and their respective physical properties compared.
