Construction and Characterization of Superhydrophobic Silica Nanoparticles by Surface Modification with Fluorosilane and Alkylsilane

Abstract
Superhydrophobic coatings enable precise control of surface wettability and are increasingly essential in a wide range of industrial applications, from contamination and corrosion resistance to conformal coatings for exposed printed circuit boards. This study aims to construct superhydrophobic surfaces through the surface functionalization of silica nanoparticles. To achieve this, fluoro- and alkyl- coated silica nanoparticles were constructed by surface silanization with octadecyltrimethoxysilane and triethoxy-1H,1H,2H,2H-tridecafluoro-n-octylsilane. The physical and chemical characteristics of the modified nanoparticles were compared and analyzed using various analytical instruments, including FT-IR, SEM, EDS and contact angle measurement.
