Abstract
Thermogravimetric (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) behavior of coatings based on epoxy resin modified by soybean oil (ESO), castor oil (ECO), black seed oil (EBSO), palm oil (EPO), coconut oil (ECNO) and monomer 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl 3,4-epoxycyclohexane carboxylate (BCDE), photoinitiator triarylsulfonium hexafluoroantimonate (TAS) have been investigated.
It was determined that interval from room temperature to 350 ℃ was characterized by volatilization of moisture and low molecular weight compounds existed in coating formulations like propylene carbonate, BCDE or product of TAS photolysis. The degradation of investigated coatings occurred between 350 ℃ and 600 ℃. Their temperature of degradation as well as weight loss, ash content were influenced by crosslinking degree of the coatings, chain length and double bond content of fatty acids in the oils used for modification of epoxy resin. Coating based on EBSO has lowest and coatings based on EPO or ECNO have highest weight loss at investigated degradation temperatures. The glass transition temperature of UV-cured coatings diminished in order of the resins used in formulations as follows: EBSO, EPO, ESO, ECO, ECNO.
