Retentive Electrochemical and Electronic Doping Dynamics in Organic Thin Films

Abstract

Organic semiconductors exhibit complex doping dynamics when interfaced with ionic electrolytes, where electrochemical and electronic processes occur simultaneously. This study systematically investigates ion-penetration-induced doping kinetics in organic thin films, focusing on how structural parameters influence charge carrier modulation. By applying electrochemical gating, we examine doping processes as functions of film morphology, molecular crosslinking density, and thickness. Crosslinking density influences ion diffusion pathways and doping reversibility, leading to retentive multi-state behavior. Films with varying crosslinking ratios exhibit different ionic penetration resistance. Film thickness variations affect the balance between interfacial and bulk doping processes. This work elucidates relationships between film structure and electrochemical doping dynamics, providing insights for organic electronics exploiting reversible doping through solution-processable materials.
