Abstract
Intrinsically stretchable light-emitting devices are attractive for wearable and next-generation display applications, yet polymer-based emitters suffer from limited colour gamut, broad emission spectra, and low luminance. Here, we report an intrinsically stretchable emissive layer (EML) based on a ternary nanocomposite of quantum dots (QDs), an elastomer, and a charge transport polymer. Incorporation of an elastomer at 10wt% relative to QDs enables stretchability up to ~50% uniaxial strain. Spontaneous vertical phase separation generates hole-transport-polymer-rich regions near the bottom of the EML, facilitating efficient hole injection into QDs. Consequently, stretchable QLEDs show a low turn-on voltage of 3.2 V and a high luminance of 15,170 cd m-2 at 6.2 V, even under 50% strain. In addition, the EML is compatible with transfer printing, enabling full-colour passive-matrix intrinsically stretchable QLED arrays.
