Abstract
This study aimed to modify the surface layer of biodegradable l-polylactide (L-PLA) at the molecular level by utilizing the interfacial interaction forces between PLA enantiomers. A D-PLA monolayer was deposited onto an L-PLA coating film using the Langmuir–Blodgett technique, and changes in the properties of the outermost surface layer were investigated by varying the annealing temperature. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was employed to observe morphological changes in the surface as a function of annealing temperature. In addition, selective enzymatic degradation experiments were conducted to systematically examine the formation of stereocomplexation in the surface layer and its enzymatic degradation behavior. This approach is expected to clarify the influence of molecular-level control of the surface properties of biodegradable L-PLA on improving its degradation stability.
