Abstract
This study investigates thermo-oxidative property degradation in polypropylene/ethylene–octene rubber (PP/EOR) composites containing inorganic additives used to achieve lightweight and stiffness enhancement in automotive interior parts. Talc and whisker fillers were incorporated at various loadings (5–15 phr), and accelerated thermal aging at 140 °C was performed to evaluate changes in mechanical performance and thermal stability. Composites with low talc contents exhibited stable impact and tensile retention after aging, whereas high whisker and hybrid-filled systems showed pronounced embrittlement and strength loss. Spectroscopic and thermal analyses revealed additive-dependent oxidation behavior. Statistical evaluation identified impact strength as a sensitive indicator of degradation severity. The results clarify how additive selection and concentration govern degradation mechanisms in PP-based automotive composites.
