Abstract
Fine iron powder generated during iron ore processing requires agglomeration for reuse in steelmaking due to its small particle size. Sodium silicate is commonly used as a binder because of its low cost and high-temperature strength, but it shows poor water resistance and severe strength loss after moisture exposure. In this study, a curable epoxy resin was combined with sodium silicate to form a hybrid binder system. While maintaining constant solid content, the organic binder ratio was varied to evaluate forming strength and water resistance. Increased organic content significantly improved bonding strength and durability in wet conditions. An optimal composition balancing performance and cost was identified, demonstrating the potential of hybrid binders for durable recycling of fine iron powder.
