Abstract
Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) offer high energy density and low cost, but the shuttle effect, where lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) dissolve and migrate, causes capacity fade, limiting commercialization. We propose a Co single-atom doped graphitic carbon nitride (Co-SA/g-C3N4) composite as a cathode host to suppress this effect and enhance LSB lifespan. The synergy between Co’s d-orbitals and g-C3N4’s nitrogen sites enables strong LiPS chemisorption, preventing dissolution. The composite also catalyzes electron transfer, speeding up LiPS redox kinetics by lowering the energy barrier for conversion to insoluble Li2S. LSBs with S@Co-SA/g-C3N4 show high initial capacity, excellent cycle stability, and fast charging, paving the way for practical LSBs.
