Abstract

Coordination polymers (CPs), constructed through coordination bonding between metal ions and organic ligands, can form highly ordered architectures via self-assembly. Their structural and physicochemical properties are strongly governed by the choice and combination of metal centers and ligands. In particular, when olefin-containing ligands are incorporated into CP frameworks and aligned in close proximity, UV irradiation can trigger solid-state [2+2] photocycloaddition reactions, resulting in the formation of cyclobutane linkages. In this work, we report the synthesis and structural characterization of a series of olefin-based coordination polymers and investigate their structural transformations induced by external stimuli, especially photocycloaddition reactions. The reversibility of the photoreaction, possible isomerization behavior, and detailed structural evolution are discussed based on comprehensive structural analyse
