Abstract

The growing demand for EVs and ESS is accelerating lithium-ion battery (LIB) innovation. Solvent-free dry electrode fabrication enables thick, high-energy-density electrodes, but increased thickness often leads to high tortuosity, hindering Li⁺ transport and degrading performance. This study investigates the impact of conductive additive morphology on 150 µm-thick Ni-rich NCM811 cathodes made via a dry process. By combining zero-dimensional Super P and two-dimensional graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), the optimized S75G25 electrode forms a synergistic 0D–2D conductive network, reducing tortuosity (τ = 6.09) and enhancing Li⁺ and electron transport. This composition delivers 208 mAh g⁻¹ at 0.1 C with improved cycling stability. These results demonstrate the importance of tailoring conductive pathways for high-performance, scalable dry-processed electrodes. Furthermore, this approach offers a practical route toward eco-friendly and cost-effective LIB manufacturing.
