Abstract

Wounds may develop into chronic conditions due to severe tissue damage or diseases such as diabetes, causing serious physical and psychological burden. In this study, polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) (8:2) ultrafine fiber sheets were fabricated and functionalized with chondroitin sulfate (ChS), (3-aminomethyl phenyl) boronic acid (APBA), and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) for wound healing applications. PHB is a promising biomaterial due to its elasticity, biodegradability, and biocompatibility, while PEO was introduced to improve spinnability. ChS-APBA/EGCG coating enhanced tissue adhesion and fibroblast growth through dynamic covalent bonding and stabilized EGCG. The coated sheets exhibited soft, elastic, and extracellular matrix-like structures, supporting cell proliferation and migration. In vivo studies demonstrated superior wound healing performance compared to conventional dressings, indicating strong potential as advanced wound dressing materials.
