Abstract
This study aims to prepare functionalized surfaces for metal ion adsorption by chemically modifying the epoxy groups of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) grafted onto polyethylene (PE) films via electron beam (EB) irradiation. GMA-grafted films were prepared on the PE surface. The epoxy groups were reacted with thiourea to convert them into thiirane structures, thereby enhancing their chemical reactivity. These thiirane intermediates were subsequently functionalized with nucleophilic amine and sulfite groups to introduce specific metal-absorbing molecules onto the surface. The chemical and physical properties of the resulting modified PE films were comprehensively characterized using various analytical techniques.
