Abstract
TPV combines EPDM rubber's elasticity with PP processability. Its performance relies on a morphology where cross-linked EPDM is dispersed in a PP matrix. A key challenge is achieving uniform dispersion without PP degradation, which depends on screw profile design. This research optimized the screw profile via Ludovic simulation and nano-silica. Through DOE, forward kneading blocks were replaced with reverse-kneading blocks for intensified shear and better mixing. Consequently, TPVs showed improved properties: tensile strength rose by 1–2 MPa and modulus by ~40 MPa. Rheological analysis confirmed this resulted from higher crosslink density via filler–rubber interactions. With 10 phr of silica, the torque difference rose from 0.116 N·m to 0.200 N·m. In conclusion, combining Ludovic-based optimization with nano-silica reinforcement improves TPV performance for automotive applications.
