Abstract

Light-responsive polymeric particles offer a versatile platform for precisely programmed shape and color transformations in multi-level memory systems. We report a block copolymer (BCP) particle system using hydrazone-based photoswitches in PS-b-P2VP that functions as a structural memory element. Dual-wavelength irradiation (410/365 nm) triggers (E)/(Z) isomerization, modulating N - Br interactions to switch reversibly among three distinct morphologies: lamellar ellipsoids, networked lamellae, and surface-wrapped discs. These states exhibit high fatigue resistance and long-term stability, retaining > 97% of their configuration for 30 days in the dark. Furthermore, domain-selective fluorescent dyes enable real-time, color-coded readout via FRET modulation, providing a robust path for multi-level optical data storage.
