Abstract
In this study, a porous monolith based on azido-functionalized thermoplastic polyurethane (ATPU) was fabricated, and a carbon black (CB)-incorporated composite absorbent was prepared. The ATPU monolith was formed via low-temperature phase separation in a 1,4-dioxane/water mixed solvent system, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed the formation of a continuous porous structure. Oil absorption behavior was evaluated using soybean oil dyed with Oil Red O, and effective oil uptake into the monolith was visually observed. In addition, under simulated solar irradiation (1 sun), the surface temperature of the ATPU/CB monolith increased rapidly, reaching a maximum temperature of approximately 119 °C, demonstrating the photothermal response induced by carbon black. These results indicate that the incorporation of carbon black into an ATPU-based porous monolith enables the simultaneous realization of oil absorption capability and photothermal functionality.
