Abstract

Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) are promising for biointegrated sensing, but their longevity is often hindered by electrolyte dehydration. We present an OECT platform utilizing a choline acetate ([Ch][Ace]) ionic liquid in both the channel and electrolyte, comprising [Ch][Ace]-infused PEDOT:PSS (CLiPS) and a [Ch][Ace]–gelatin ionic gel (CAGel). The diffusion of [Ch][Ace] into the channel induces PSS- screening and dedoping, shifting the peak transconductance bias to 0 V without compromising performance. These devices exhibit a competitive transconductance of ~50 mS and ultrafast switching of ~80 ns. Due to CAGel’s high ionic conductivity (17.1 mS cm^-1) and low volatility, the OECTs operate stably for over 3 months under ambient conditions. This approach enables 3D-integrated 9×9 arrays with high on/off ratios (>10^5) and facilitates high-fidelity, long-term ECG/EMG recording.
