Abstract
With increasing environmental concerns from waste accumulation, biodegradable materials decomposed by microorganisms have gained significant attention. Among various biodegradable polymers, nanocellulose based materials (cellulose nanofiber, nanocrystal, bacterial cellulose, etc.) possess outstanding properties including large specific surface area, high mechanical strength, and renewability, and are actively researched in diverse applications such as packaging materials, polymer composites, flexible electronics substrates, and biomedical materials. In this manner, nanocellulose based materials were examined for enhanced physical properties and biodegradability, highlighting recent trends and future strategies for developing sustainable, high-performance materials that harmonize functionality with environmental degradability.
