Abstract
Increasing fire safety demands in high-density energy storage systems have driven the development of advanced flame-retardant materials. Borosiloxane(Si-O-B) networks offer superior thermal stability and flame retardancy through the formation of a robust char layer; however, achieving solution-processability upon boron incorporation into siloxane networks remains challenging. Here, we report nano-borosiloxane networks synthesized via controlled sol–gel condensation between functionalized organosilanes and boronic acid derivatives, followed by thiol-ene curing to form crosslinked networks. Structural characterization was performed by FT-IR, MALDI-TOF, and ²⁹Si/¹¹B NMR spectroscopy. Thermal and char-forming properties were evaluated by TGA and SEM, confirming superior thermal resistance and dense char layer. This work demonstrates solution-processable nano-borosiloxane networks that unifies exceptional thermal robustness with effective char-forming flame retardancy.
