Abstract
Our research group studies photoredox-mediated ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) using vinyl ethers as initiators. Depending upon the photoredox catalyst, the entire process can be conducted without the need for metal reagents, thus constituting a fully metal-free variation of ROMP. Additionally, different photoredox catalysts, whether organic or organometallic, offer unique synthetic benefits. We will discuss recent advances to explore a broadened catalyst range, stereochemical control during the polymerization, mechanistic investigations, and unique architectures of polymers (such as bottlebrush copolymers, block copolymers, and cyclic polymers).
