Abstract

The recent emergence of lead halide perovskites has catalyzed advancements across optoelectronics, due to their high carrier mobility, long carrier diffusion length, and defect tolerance. Beyond these favorable electronic properties, a defining characteristic of these materials, is the presence of mobile ionic species, particularly halide vacancies, which readily migrate under electric fields due to the highly ionic and polarizable lattice. Importantly, both electronic and ionic transport in lead halide perovskites are strongly dependent on crystal structure, composition, and microstructural features, giving rise to varying transport behaviors across different perovskite systems. In this context, the structural diversity of lead halide perovskites enables insight into structure–transport relationships in mixed electronic–ionic conduction, thereby creating opportunities for its controlled manipulation toward a broad class of iontronic device concepts.
