Abstract
In this study, advanced heat transfer organic materials (HTOMs) were developed using triphenylene-based reactive discotic liquid crystals (RDLCs) to achieve high thermal conductivity. Vinyl-functionalized TP-V6 and thiol-functionalized TP-SH6 were synthesized as a discotic monomer and cross-linker, and the optimal LC phase region was identified from a temperature–composition diagram. The self-assembled RDLC columns were fixed by thiol–ene photopolymerization to form macroscopically aligned polymer films under a rotating magnetic field. The RDLC-based HTOMs polymerized in the liquid crystalline phase exhibited thermal conductivity exceeding 1 W/m·K, while in-plane aligned films showed anisotropic thermal conductivity of up to ~3 W/m·K. These results suggest RDLC-based HTOMs for thermal management in electronic and display devices.
