Abstract

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) suffer from interfacial instability in carbonate-based electrolytes due to electrolyte decomposition at the Li metal anode. To address this issue, a multifunctional separator based on a siloxane-functionalized poly(aromatic amide) (APA-g-APT) is fabricated as a nanofiber mat by electrospinning. The uniformly distributed Si–OR groups scavenge HF, suppress parasitic reactions, and promote the formation of stable, inorganic-rich SEI and CEI layers on both electrodes. Upon HF scavenging, in situ formation of electronegative Si–F moieties enhances ionic conductivity and enables homogeneous Li-ion transport. Consequently, Li/NCM811 full cells with thin Li anodes (<40 µm) show stable cycling even in electrolytes containing 1000 ppm H₂O. When paired with high-loading cathodes, the APA-g-APT cell achieves a gravimetric energy density of up to 402.2 Wh kg⁻¹, providing a practical route toward safe, high-energy-density LMBs.
