Abstract
Soft nanogels promise injectable, biocompatible formulations with tunable flow and solid-like stability, but their bulk rheology remains largely recipe-driven because particle volume, interactions, and mechanics evolve under crowding. Here we establish a molecular-to-bulk “design map” for PEG-based nanogels: how molecular choices (PEGDA molar mass, crosslink architecture, ionic content, and polymerization conditions) translate into particle-scale properties (swelling/compressibility, core–corona structure, effective interactions) and ultimately into macroscopic viscoelasticity, yielding, and flow. By combining controlled synthesis with quantitative characterization across dilute to crowded states, we provide predictive rules to engineer targeted rheological windows relevant to injectable depots, thickeners, and soft-solid processing.
