Abstract
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent environmental contaminants associated with bioaccumulation and adverse health effects, leading to increasingly strict global regulations. Among them, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is frequently detected in water systems, highlighting the need for efficient and selective removal strategies.
In this study, amine-functionalized activated carbon was developed to enhance the adsorption selectivity toward PFOA. Surface-introduced amine groups promoted electrostatic interactions with anionic PFOA, resulting in improved adsorption performance compared to pristine activated carbon. These results demonstrate that amine functionalization is an effective approach to improving PFOA adsorption and offers a promising solution for PFAS removal in water treatment applications
