Abstract
Polypropylene-based insulation used in power cables requires a carefully designed antioxidant system to secure long-term thermal and electrical stability. In this study, the influence of phosphite antioxidant (AO 168) content on oxidation resistance and DC electrical performance was systematically investigated. During melt processing, AO 168 is readily consumed and converted into oxidized species, and the residual amount after processing strongly depends on the initial loading level. Increasing AO 168 content effectively improves oxidation stability; however, excessive addition leads to a noticeable degradation of DC insulation performance. This indicates the existence of a critical antioxidant concentration beyond which dielectric properties are adversely affected. These results highlight the importance of antioxidant control in achieving balanced performance between thermal stabilization and electrical reliability.
