Abstract

Neuromorphic computing devices, such as artificial synapses, are emerging as key enablers of physical artificial intelligence. Among them, conducting materials whose electrical properties can be dynamically modulated by mobile ions offer unique opportunities for emulating synaptic functions. However, the stochastic and unstable nature of ion transport often limits precise and reliable operation. In this talk, we present rational strategies to regulate mobile ions with high precision, enabling accurate and programmable conductance control across a wide range of materials, including 3D and 2D halide perovskites, MXene, and carbon nanotubes (CNT). Representatively, ferroelectric polymers are integrated into these materials to enable nonvolatile, quantitative tuning of the channel conductance by electrical pulses. We further introduce dispersant design for synaptic CNT transistors exhibiting short- and long-term plasticity, demonstrating effective strategies for neuromorphic devices.
