Abstract
Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) show promise for self-powered implantable wearables that convert mechanical touch into electricity. However, bacterial contamination from human contact poses significant challenges. Here, we present an antibacterial film-based TENG (AF-TENG) using cationic quaternary ammonium-grafted PVDF (NH4-PVDF). Increasing grafting content enhanced dielectric constant, β-phase ratio, and tribo-positivity, improving electrical output. The optimized AF-TENG with 40 wt% NH4-PVDF achieved a maximum power density of 134 mW/m2—a 24.1-fold higher over pristine PVDF-CTFE, demonstrating stable performance over 21,000 cycles. The AF-TENG exhibited excellent antibacterial activity (99.99%) against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa. These results demonstrate that NH4-PVDF provides antibacterial protection and superior triboelectric performance, offering a sustainable platform for next-generation wearable energy harvesting devices.
