Abstract

In this study, we present a strategy for the development of an organic-inorganic composite membrane with excellent electrochemical properties and durability due to multiple intermolecular interactions between quaternized poly(arylene ether) and GO-QPEI. To investigate the effect of novel inorganic fillers in anion exchange membranes, composite membranes were prepared with different GO-QPEI contents. The introduction of GO-QPEI into the polymer matrix significantly increased the ionic conductivity by promoting the hydrophilic/hydrophobic microphase separation whitin the membrane. In additon, the interfacial interacitons (var der Waals forces) between the GO support and the polymer chains improved binding energies between the polymer matrix and the nanofillers, leading to improved dimensional stability and chemical durability.
