Abstract
Compared to linear block copolymers (BCPs), bottlebrush block copolymers (BBCPs) possess unique architectural features, including a high entanglement molecular weight, making them promising materials for advanced nanopatterning. In this work, terminal bromine (Br) groups were removed via dehalogenation prior to thermal annealing to suppress undesired side reactions and ensure stable self-assembly. Using this stabilized BBCP platform, cylinder-forming BBCPs were synthesized, and their intrinsic conformational asymmetry was utilized to generate asymmetric nanoscale cylinder patterns. Well-ordered cylinder morphologies were achieved through thermal annealing alone and verified by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). These results highlight the potential of asymmetric BBCP cylinders for directed self-assembly (DSA), enabling complex pattern formation and defect mitigation on pre-patterned substrates.
