Abstract
We have advanced membrane separation technologies, delivering gains across RO, NF, UF, and MF through advances in analysis and fabrication. Integrating structural characterization, surface/interface design, and module engineering, we achieved improvements in durability, permeability, and selective removal of neutral molecules. RO membranes showed high rejection of silica, boron, and urea, enabling ultrapure water production and wastewater reuse in semiconductor processes. Newly developed NF membranes enabled efficient lithium extraction from brines and recycled batteries, while next generation UF membranes offered strong fouling resistance and reduced operational CO2 emissions. In parallel, our gas separation membrane research shows promising potential to enhance molecular selectivity and support energy efficient processes. Together, these advances demonstrate how continued evolution and integration of membrane technologies drive sustainable water treatment and resource recovery.
