Abstract
Cyclic olefin polymers (COPs) are widely used in optical applications due to their high transparency, thermal stability, and low birefringence, while monomer sequence distribution governs their physical and optical properties. Herein, ketone-functionalized COPs with controlled sequence distributions were prepared, yielding gradient and gradient-block architectures. Hydrosilylation via post-polymerization modification enabled efficient property modulation under mild conditions without altering the polymer backbone. The modified polymers exhibited pronounced changes in chain mobility, thermal behavior, and film-forming characteristics. Thermal, mechanical, and optical properties were evaluated by DSC, TGA, tensile testing, and UV–visible spectroscopy, revealing enhanced optical transparency dependent on polymer architecture and silane structure. Also, subsequent hydrolysis can generate hydroxyl groups, enabling upcycling or recycling through further functional group substitution.
