Abstract
This study demonstrates high-performance organic solar cells (OSCs) processed using an eco-friendly binary solvent system of eucalyptol (Eu) and 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (MeTHF). To improve blend morphology and power conversion efficiency (PCE), MeTHF—a green solvent with a lower boiling point (78 °C)—was introduced into the terpene-based system. MeTHF accelerates solvent evaporation and enhances molecular ordering during film formation, leading to crystalline fibrillar networks in the active layer. This morphology promotes efficient donor–acceptor interfaces and optimized charge-transport pathways, thereby suppressing charge recombination. OSCs processed with the optimized Eu:MeTHF (50:50 v/v) mixture achieve a PCE of 17.3%, outperforming devices processed with Eu (15.7%) or MeTHF (15.9%) alone. This work reports the highest PCE for terpene-processed OSCs and highlights co-solvent engineering as an effective route toward eco-friendly, scalable organic electronics.
