Abstract

The goal of this research is to develop a system capable of creating diverse sequence ensembles in polymers and to understand the relationship between ensemble-controlled structures and material properties. By decoupling polymer sequence distribution from the chemical structure of monomers, we aim to synthesize a wide range of copolymers with the same repeating units but varied sequence ensembles. To achieve this, we will establish theoretical modeling capabilities to describe copolymerization, develop analytical techniques to track sequence distribution, and investigate the resulting structures and properties at the material level. Ultimately, we seek to establish new principles for designing sequence ensembles that overcome traditional material property trade-offs. Controlling sequence distribution in copolymers to create materials with unique properties, overcoming the limitations of traditional block and alternating copolymers.
