Abstract
Polymer binders are critical for the mechanical and electrochemical stability of electrodes, yet conventional fluorinated binders suffer from poor degradability. Herein, a degradable elastomeric binder was synthesized via in situ polymerization within the cathode using α-lipoic acid (LA) and di-vinyl crosslinkers. Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEG, Mn ≈ 700) and 1,4-divinylbenzene (DIB) were used to examine the effect of crosslinker chemistry. PEG700-based binders enhanced electrolyte affinity, while DIB-based binders emphasized mechanical stability. Crosslink density was controlled by varying PEG700:LA and DIB:LA ratios, and the resulting electrodes were evaluated by linear sweep voltammetry and mechanical analyses.
