Abstract
A piezo–photonic hybrid nanostructure is developed to enhance reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation by synergistically harvesting optical and mechanical energy. A core–shell architecture is formed by integrating BaTiO₃ with Donor–Acceptor conjugated polymers (PCE10/PCE9), enabled by carboxylic acid surface modification using octanoic acid. The charge transfer mechanism is explained based on conventional energy band theory, where favorable interfacial energy level alignment promotes efficient charge separation, while the D–A architecture suppresses charge recombination.
In addition, piezoelectric polarization of BTO induces interfacial screening charges that further enhance charge separation. Ultrasonically induced cavitation acts as a trigger for piezoelectric activation, leading to enhanced ROS generation under combined light and ultrasound stimulation. This platform shows potential for PDT–SDT cancer therapy and marine environmental remediation.
