Abstract

To fabricate organic fluorescent sensors that respond to acid vapor, a cyanostilbene-based reactive monomer with a pyridine moiety (PCRM) is newly designed and synthesized. The synthesized PCRM shows aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and reversibly responds to acid/base. Furthermore, PCRMs can act as H-bonded acceptors. As a result, the PCRM-8OB complex is formed by 1:1 hydrogen bonding. From the optimized mixture, two-dimensional (2D) nanostructure films are fabricated through subsequent processes such as self-assembly, polymerization, and etching. Interestingly, it was identified that 2D nanostructure sensing films have different sensitivities to acid vapor depending on the molecular direction. We demonstrate a new optical sensor that can appear the risk level according to the concentration of acid vapor in the air.
