Abstract
Organic–inorganic halide perovskites are promising absorber materials for next-generation optoelectronic devices, yet their susceptibility to moisture-induced degradation remains a key challenge for long-term stability. Conventional characterisation techniques provide limited access to depth-dependent moisture penetration and buried interfacial evolution in multilayer structures.
Here, neutron reflectivity is employed as a non-destructive, depth-resolved probe to investigate moisture-induced degradation in perovskite/hole-transport-layer bilayer thin films. Owing to the high sensitivity of neutrons to hydrogen, humidity-dependent changes in scattering length density directly reveal water uptake, depth-dependent hydration, and interfacial broadening during early-stage degradation. These results demonstrate the capability of neutron reflectivity to elucidate moisture-driven degradation pathways in perovskite thin films.
