Synergistic Polymer Design Strategy for Low-Temperature Operation of Energy Storage Devices

Abstract

Development of stable ion conductors is essential to overcome the drastic decrease in ionic conductivity under extreme conditions. Here, we demonstrate a synergistic molecular design strategy that ensures stable operation of energy storage devices at low temperatures. By incorporating fluorinated side chains to promote ion dissociation and optimizing polymer chain length to activate segmental motion, we significantly enhanced ion mobility. Consequently, the developed ion conductor exhibited high ionic conductivity with low temperature dependence. Its application in micro-supercapacitors demonstrated reliable electrochemical performance under low-temperature conditions. Ultimately, this molecular design strategy paves the way for developing advanced energy storage systems capable of operating in cryogenic environments.
