Abstract
This study presents an enzyme-embedded PLA platform designed to accelerate biodegradation without sacrificing mechanical integrity. . The encapsulated enzyme retained extended activity in the solid state and was compatible with conventional extrusion processes. Under ISO 14855 controlled composting conditions, enzyme-integrated PLA achieved approximately 40% mineralization within 45 days, corresponding to a 2.6–2.7-fold increase in biodegradation rate compared with neat PLA, while preserving key mechanical properties. By shortening carbon residence time and enabling standards-based biodegradation claims, this technology provides a scalable pathway for ESG-compliant, carbon-neutral polymer systems applicable to packaging, agriculture, and regulated industrial sectors.
