Abstract
Hyperspectral imaging requires optical filters with precise wavelength selectivity. Conventional filters rely on mechanical tuning and exhibit low transmittance due to polarizers. We demonstrate an electrically tunable hyperspectral filter based on broadband oblique helicoidal cholesteric liquid crystals (CHOH). Two stacked broadband CHOH cells transmit only wavelengths between their reflection bands, which are tuned by an applied electric field without mechanical components or polarizers. Broadband reflection is achieved by an electric-field-induced pitch gradient along the cell thickness using a circular indium tin oxide electrode. This simple design enables a high-transmittance, electrically tunable hyperspectral filter.
