Fiber Integrated Organic Electrochemical Transistor Platform for Real Time Glucose Detection

Abstract

Glucose is a key metabolic indicator of plant physiological states, but its accurate monitoring requires direct sensing within plant tissues, which is challenging for conventional bulky and rigid sensors. Here, we present a minimally invasive glucose sensing platform based on organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) integrated onto 200 um diameter fibers. Owing to efficient ion to electron coupling, low voltage operation below 1 V, and volumetric redox modulation of the active channel, the fiber based OECTs achieve high transconductance exceeding 19 mS, enabling sensitive detection of subtle biochemical signals. This fiber integrated approach overcomes the size and invasiveness limitations of conventional devices and offers a promising pathway toward one dimensional microfiber based biosensors for advanced plant physiological monitoring.
